Wilbur and Orville WRight flew their experimental airplanes
at Huffman Prairie field in 1904 (Flyer II) and 1905 (Flyer III).
The Wright brothers said they learned how to fly here at Huffman Prairie.
This
is the site where the Wright brothers perfected the airplane and created
the world's first airport. Here many of the world's first pilots
were trained, including America's first military pilots. The
Wright Company opearted a flying school at the field and tested company
airplanes from 1910 to 1916.
Today you can see a replica of
the 1905 hangar constructed by the Wright brothers, as well as a replica
catapult system. A self-guided tour features interpretive signs
describing other features of the flying field.

Directions
from major highways:
From the North
or West: Take I-75 South, exit onto State Route 4 North (Exit
54C). Take Route 4 to the exit for State Route 444 East.
AFter the first stop light, stay in the left hand lane and make the
first left turn off of Route 444 at the gold course. You are
entering Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Gate 16A. Follow the
road back 1.5 miles to the Flying Field.
From the South: From I-75 North exit onto I-675 North (Exit
43). From I-675, take the "Area A & C" exit for State Route
844 (Exit 17). Exit onto State Route 444. AT the bottom
of the exit ramp, turn right onto State Route 444. Travel west through
one stop light and turn right at the golf course. You are entering
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Gate 16A. Follow the road back
1.5 miles to the Flying Field.
From
the East: From I-70 exit onto State Route 4 South (Exit 41).
Exit State Route 4 onto Route 444. Follow Directions remainder
of directions "From the North".
