The Wright Cycle Company is
one of four sites of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical
Park. The other three sites include the Paul Laurence Dunbar
State Memorial, Huffman Prairie Flying Field, and the Wright Flyer
III.
Wilbur and Orville Wright operated a bicycle shop in this
building from 1895 to 1897. Here, in 1896, they started on their
journey to unlock the secrets of flight. The skills they learned
while manufacturing their own brand of bicycles proved essential in
building the worlds first airplane. This building tells about
the Wright brothers' bicycle business and the popularity of bicycles
in the late 19th century.
